Eastside Culture Crawl 2010


Eastside Culture Crawl invites the public to visit studios in east Vancouver for the weekend of November 26th, 27th and 28th. (Friday 5-10 pm, Sat and Sun from 11-6 pm) Our studio is located in the heart of Strathcona, at 800 Keefer street. Entrance on Hawks avenue, look for the yellow balloons, the yellow door and the crow mosaic on the door!
This year i am showing a range of recent wood and linocuts (images for some here) as well as small paintings on Mylar from a recent trip to Italy. Esther is featuring recent C-prints from a series on Migrations as well as some double-exposed prints from Celestun, Yucatan. Please come and visit.

Orwell Mural Launch this week

Through the Eye of the Raven mural will be launched in a traditional native ceremony this week. Including dance, a blessing of the wall by Latash (Maurice Nahanee), a reading by poet Nicola Campbell , and a chance to meet the mural artists, this event will launch this landmark mural on Hastings Street.
The Orwell Hotel's art gallery, coordinated by Vancouver Native Housing Society, will also be open during the event, profiling studio works by the mural artists.

Through the Eye of the Raven mural

Through the Eye of the Raven, a mural for the west-facing wall of the renovated Orwell Hotel on Hastings Street, covers close to 8000 square feet, and is likely the largest mural in Western Canada. The collaborative mural is visible from various locations in Vancouver. Attached are some updated photos of the work in progress.

A mural launch, which is open to the public, will take place on August 19th at 10:30 am at 456 East Hastings. Follow the signs to the event.
This event will also profile the new gallery space that will be set up on the main floor of the Orwell Hotel, to showcase urban aboriginal artists working in Vancouver.

A collaborative mural designed with urban aboriginal artists based in Vancouver Canada, this mural will be more than 7500 square feet. Located at 456 East Hastings, it will cover six stories of the west-facing wall. Painting begins soon.
